Clinical Supervision
One of the things I love most about our field is the priority of ongoing learning. I’m happy to provide supervision to provisionally licensed therapists (LPCC’s) in Colorado. Below is a little about my focus, training, & experience:
I work with adults of all genders and sexual orientations. My work is rooted in a systems, feminist, and size-affirming approach. I feel strongly about my work being queer-affirming, fat positive, anti-racism informed, and social justice-oriented, to be a safe space for people in all types of bodies. I value ongoing learning as a professional in this field, and enjoy sharing resources for deeper understanding and continued education.
My clinical background has been almost exclusively working with survivors of trauma - sexual trauma is an area I have extensive training and experience in, but many of my clients are also survivors of physical, shock, developmental, attachment, and relational traumas. Helping folks feel safe enough in the container of the therapy session to build resources, connection to their body, and experience trauma healing is a privilege and is why I love this work! I utilize a lot of Internal Family Systems (IFS), EMDR, and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP) with my clients, sometimes exclusively, and sometimes incorporated together.
The teachings of the following have been incredibly influential in the “what” and “how” of my therapeutic style: Resmaa Menakem (somatics of racialized trauma), Jamie Marich (EMDR & dissociation), Linda Thai (somatic embodiment), Richard Schwartz (IFS/parts work), Frank Anderson (IFS & neuroscience of trauma), Pat Ogden (Sensorimotor/somatic), adrienne maree brown (pleasure as a birthright), Sonya Renee Taylor (radical self-love), Sabrina Strings (racism in diet culture), Janina Fisher (Sensorimotor & dissociative parts), Steven Porges (polyvagal theory & nervous system regulation), Da’shaun L Harrison (politics of anti-fatness as anti-blackness), and Aubrey Gordon (fat activism).
My conceptualization of client cases is one of compassion, curiosity, and an assumption that there is a reason (logical, emotional, or safety-seeking) somewhere for most issues. This means I am hesitant to pathologize what’s going on with someone, or why someone acts a certain way. Having this understanding, training, and extensive experience has been crucial in working with trauma survivors.
My role as a therapist is not one of an “expert”, or a “healer”, but as a helpful guide. Helping clients understand themselves, and experience stability, safety, & healing is my intention, as well as continuing to observe my own parts that may show up in the process.
In clinical supervision, I incorporate these concepts, providing guidance, support and reflection on treatment planning, helpful tools, documentation, countertransference, ethics, and personal growth as a therapist. I have experience working in many settings: psychiatric hospital, community mental health, group practice, and now private practice. More about me here - please reach out to see if we might be a good fit!
