About Sarah O’Keefe (she/her)

Hello! I’m so glad you stopped by.

I know how important it is to feel comfortable and safe with the therapist you choose. Here’s a little bit about me:

I currently live in Colorado, but am originally from Kansas City, Missouri. I have a Master’s Degree in Counseling & Guidance from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. My clinical experience ranges from an acute crisis center, community mental health, counseling agencies, and now to private practice. Each of these settings have gifted me with lessons in how to be with people in their pain. For several years, I have specialized in helping survivors of sexual abuse & assault heal from the trauma they experienced. A huge passion of mine is helping survivors of trauma, and creating a safe space for all the parts that so often come along with trauma: anxiety, body shame, people-pleasing, “I don’t know who I am”, mistrust, perfectionism, the list goes on.

In my work, it’s important to me that you leave with tools and insight for your life outside of sessions, too (where most of life happens!). I provide information on trauma’s impact, and I can help make sense of your experience by looking at the oppressive systems that have had an impact on how you navigate the world (i.e. patriarchy, individualism, diet culture, racism, sexism, etc.). I incorporate evidenced based treatments, such as IFS, EMDR, SP, including what’s happening in the body, and facilitating healing in a way that fits for you and the parts you show up with. I love incorporating humor in sessions also (when appropriate of course!) as one of the many experiences of nervous system regulation.

My work is rooted in a systems, feminist, and size-affirming holistic approach. I feel strongly about my work being queer-affirming, fat positive, anti-racism informed, and social justice-oriented, to be a safe space for people in all types of bodies. As a person with a lot of privilege with the body I live in, I’m committed to continuing my own work in these areas as well and love collaborating with others doing the same. I believe, as a therapist, this is crucial in order to be a safe space holder for clients.

Outside of work, I feel most like ME when I’m outside - hiking, camping, long walks with a podcast, or laying on a blanket at a park with a great book. I’m an animal lover, and my cat, Virgo, makes occasional appearances in my online sessions as well as my quarterly-ish newsletter!
